From ayahuasca to astrology: in conversation with Adam Elenbaas

SPECIAL EDITION

Greetings!

Hello and welcome to a new year of Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast.

Gosh, do Elisabeth and I wish that we were actually gabfesting on all the bonkers goings on right now, but due to the FAA meltdown earlier this week, our poor gal EG had to extend her tropical get-away. As for me, I am still settling in after a cross-country move, so taking one more week off works for me…

However, Elisabeth and I have been scheming for 2023 and plan to start podcasting weekly, invite guests to speak to our listeners, and offer more to our patrons. So get ready for more news from the Ensouled Universe!

In the meantime, here’s another podcast from the archives of my flagship publication, docu-mental: mapping the american states of mind. This time it’s an interview with astrologer, author, and teacher, Adam Elenbaas, whose popular YouTube channel and school, Nightlight Astrology, bring archetypal Hellenistic astrology to the masses.

Although we do get to discussing astrology toward the end of the interview, the focus of our rich discussion is less about astrology and more about what psychedelics show us is true about the meaning of life. Some highlights include:

  • What using psychedelics feels like, and how it changes one’s perception of self and of world; the adventure of mind v. escaping pain

  • How not respecting psychdelics in context will lead to “colonization” of psychedelics; true “shamanism” v. New Age bullshit, and the implications of this for policymaking

  • The importance of “spiritual technologies” such as yoga, to move us beyond thinking in only one paradigm

  • How progress without spiritual evolution leads to cynicism

  • How narcissism and kindness are antithetical.

A programming note: Since the original airing of this podcast, Adam has gone from being called Acyuta-bhava Das, a name given to him as part of the Bhakti Yoga tradition, to returning to his given name, Adam Elenbaas.

Two corporate media renegades flip the script on the Powers That Be, using their insider's knowledge and astrology to offer perspective and analyses on world events that corporate media can't – and won't – share with you. Often funny.
